Boardman is 9-1 against East since January of 2016, and they'll have a chance to extend that success on Tuesday. The Boardman Spartans will be staying on the road to face off against East at 7:00 p.m. on December 12th. Hopefully Boardman focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 15 on Saturday.
Last Saturday, even if it wasn't a dominant performance, Boardman beat Poland Seminary 44-39. Given Boardman's advantage in MaxPreps' Ohio basketball rankings (they are ranked 29th, while Poland Seminary is ranked 96th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Boardman's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Nico Holzschuh, who scored 12 points along with three blocks. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Holzschuh has scored all season. Another player making a difference was Noah Ziak, who scored nine points.
Meanwhile, East humbled Liberty with a 90-51 victory. The win was just what East needed coming off of a 72-47 loss in their prior game.
Boardman's victory bumped their record up to 3-0. As for East, they now have a winning record of 2-1.
Boardman was able to grind out a solid victory over East in their previous meeting back in February, winning 60-53. The rematch might be a little tougher for Boardman since the squad won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
