Southlake Carroll is 8-2 against Byron Nelson since March of 2021 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Friday. The Southlake Carroll Dragons will head out to square off against the Byron Nelson Bobcat at 1:00 p.m. Expect the scorekeeper to be kept busy: if their previous games are any indication, the two teams will really light up the scoreboard.
Last Monday, Southlake Carroll got the win against Keller Central by a conclusive 14-4. The Dragons might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won nine matchups by seven runs or more this season.
Audrey Stroud looked comfortable as she tossed 2.2 innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit.
At the plate, Kelli Warden was a standout: she went 2-for-4 with one home run, four RBI, and one double. The team also got some help courtesy of Scarlett Kuhn, who scored two runs while going 3-for-5.
Southlake Carroll was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .395. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .361 or higher in five consecutive contests.
Meanwhile, Byron Nelson had already won two in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 3 runs) and they went ahead and made it three on Wednesday. They blew past the Chargers 13-6. The Bobcat not only won on Wednesday, but they posted their biggest win since February 15th.
Byron Nelson also got a great performance from Meredith Hambric as she didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits over 4.1 innings pitched. Hambric has been consistent for a while: she hasn't given up more than one walk any time she's pitched this season.
On the hitting side, Byron Nelson let Madison McBride and Emma Thompson run wild. McBride went 3-for-4 with one home run, two triples, and three runs, while Thompson fired off two home runs and six RBI while going 3-for-4. What's more, Thompson posted two runs, the most she's had since back in February. Another player making a difference was Maya Pardue, who scored three runs and stole a base while going 3-for-4.
Southlake Carroll is on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four games. That's provided a nice bump to their 14-8 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 11.0 runs over those games. Byron Nelson's record now sits at 11-9-1.
Fans could be in store for some top-tier slugging on Friday. Southlake Carroll hasn't had any problems when it comes to power this season, having averaged 0.7 home runs per game. However, it's not like Byron Nelson struggles in that department as they've been averaging 0.7 home runs. With so much power on both teams, it'll be down to the pitchers to keep the mound locked down.
Southlake Carroll beat Byron Nelson 11-8 in their previous matchup back in February. The rematch might be a little tougher for Southlake Carroll since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
