The Hilbert Wolves will be defending their home field for the first time this season when they go up against the Brillion Lions at 4:30 p.m. on Friday. Both come into the game bolstered by wins in their previous matches.
Hilbert is coming home in high spirits after they had to open their season on the road against Tri-County. The Wolves walked away with a 7-4 victory over the Penguins on Monday.
Spencer Karls made a big impact while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he pitched three innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. Karls was also big at the plate, going 3-for-4 with one stolen base, one run, and one double. That's the most hits he has posted since back in May of 2025.
In other batting news, Max Schneider was excellent, going 2-for-3 with two runs, one stolen base, and one double. That's the most runs he has posted since back in April of 2025. Another player making a difference was Carter Stephany, who went 1-for-3 with one run, one double, and one RBI.
Meanwhile, Brillion earned a 7-4 win over Valders on Thursday. The Lions haven't had any issues with the Vikings recently, as the game was their third consecutive victory against them.
Like Hilbert, Brillion also got a great game from a two-way player: Landon Mathes. Throwing, Mathes pitched 1.1 innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. Meanwhile, Joe Shimek struck out 11 batters over 4.2 innings while giving up three earned (and one unearned) runs off five hits. At bat, Mathes got on base in three of his four plate appearances with two stolen bases and one run, while Shimek got on base in all five of his plate appearances with two runs, one double, and one RBI.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Hayden Cousin, who went 1-for-4 with two stolen bases, two RBI, and one run. He is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as he's now snagged at least one in each of the last three games he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Chase Braun, who went 2-for-5 with one stolen base, one double, and one RBI.
Hilbert might still be hurting after the 8-0 defeat they got from Brillion in their previous meeting back in May of 2025. Will the Wolves have more luck at home instead of on the road? Come back here after the game to get an analysis of the match and other baseball content.
