The Mankato East Cougars will head out on the road to square off against the Owatonna Huskies at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Mankato East knows how to get points on the board -- the team has finished with flashy point totals in its past seven matchups -- so hopefully Owatonna likes a good challenge.
Last Friday, Mankato East blew past John Marshall, posting a 73-44 victory on the road.
Meanwhile, Owatonna pushed their score all the way to 55 on Tuesday, but even that wasn't enough to win. They took a 74-55 bruising from Winona. The defeat unfortunately continues a disappointing trend for Owatonna in their matchups with Winona: they've now lost three in a row.
Even though the team lost, they still had their share of impressive performances. One of the best came from Morgan Fisher, who dropped a double-double on 13 points and ten rebounds. Another player making a difference was Ava Olson, who scored 11 points along with five rebounds.
Mankato East is on a roll lately: they've won nine of their last ten matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 14-6 record this season. As for Owatonna, their defeat dropped their record down to 11-11.
Mankato East was able to grind out a solid victory over Owatonna in their previous meeting back in January, winning 64-51. The rematch might be a little tougher for Mankato East since the squad won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
