Avon has gone 8-1 against Zionsville recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Tuesday. The Orioles will challenge the Eagles at 6:00 p.m. Avon is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 6.2 runs per game this season.
Avon will face Zionsville after dropping another heartbreaker against Center Grove on Monday, which marked the second time in a row the team's come within 2.1 of beating them. The Orioles fell just short of the Trojans by a score of 10-9. The Orioles have struggled against the Trojans recently, as the game was their ninth consecutive lost meeting.
Regan Cooper made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and went 3-for-4 with three runs, three RBI, and two doubles. She continues to improve, besting her previous run total in each of the last three games she's played. Lilly Heath was another key player, going 2-for-3 with two runs, one stolen base, and one double.
Meanwhile, it was a Battle of the Birds when Zionsville challenged Guerin Catholic on Saturday. The Eagles' pitchers stepped up to hand the Golden Eagles a 10-0 shutout. The Eagles might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won nine matches by seven runs or more this season.
Kristin Evers looked comfortable as she tossed three innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than two walks any time she's pitched this season.
On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Sylvia Mudis, who went a perfect 1-for-1 with two runs, one stolen base, and one RBI. Allie Stump also deserves some recognition as she scored her first run of the season.
Zionsville always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .536. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Guerin Catholic only posted an OBP of .118.
Zionsville has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won six of their last seven contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 16-3 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 8.0 runs over those games. As for Avon, their loss dropped their record down to 5-14.
Tuesday's game will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Avon hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .322. However, it's not like Zionsville struggles in that department as they've averaged .358. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Everything went Avon's way against Zionsville in their previous meeting back in May of 2024, as Avon made off with a 9-1 victory. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Orioles since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
