Guilford is 0-10 against Hononegah since May of 2019 but things could change on Tuesday. The Vikings will face off against the Indians at 5:00 p.m. Both come into the contest bolstered by wins in their previous matches.
Having struggled with five losses in a row, Guilford turned things around against Freeport on Monday. They came out on top against the Pretzels by a score of 6-3.
Malia Welch spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered just two earned (and one unearned) runs on six hits and racked up 15 Ks.
At the plate, Leah Hunter was excellent, getting on base in three of her five plate appearances with two stolen bases, two runs, and two RBI. That's the most runs she has posted over her last ten games. Another player making a difference was Amiyah Wyrick, who went 2-for-4 with two runs.
Hononegah came out on top against Boylan Catholic on Monday thanks in part to the team's impressive eight-run fifth inning. The Indians never let the Titans get on the board and left with a 13-0 win. Considering the Indians have won nine matchups by more than five runs this season, Monday's blowout was nothing new.
The team relied heavily on Kaelyn Kelly, who went 3-for-4 with one home run, three runs, and four RBI. She has been hot recently, having also posted at least one stolen base the last three times she's played. Mali McMaster was another key player, going 2-for-3 with one home run and two RBI.
Hononegah always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .536. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Boylan Catholic only posted an OBP of .211.
Hononegah has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won 13 of their last 15 contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 17-3 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.7 runs on average over those games. As for Guilford, their record now sits at 8-16.
Guilford might still be hurting after the 11-1 defeat they got from Hononegah in their previous meeting back in April. Can the Vikings avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
