The Notre Dame Catholic Lancers's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Wednesday after their fifth straight loss. They fell to Newtown 52-48. While losing is never fun, Notre Dame Catholic can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Connecticut basketball rankings (they are ranked 106th, while Newtown is ranked 15th).
Despite the loss, Notre Dame Catholic still got an impressive performance from Madison Gibbs, who dropped a double-double on 19 points and 11 rebounds. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Gibbs has scored all season. The team also got some help courtesy of Brooklyn Gonzalez, who scored nine points.
Notre Dame Catholic bumped their record down to 1-10 with that defeat, which was their fourth straight on the road. As for Newtown, the win (which was their fourth in a row) raised their record to 11-1.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Notre Dame Catholic will be staying on the road on Friday to face off against Bethel at 6:00 p.m. on January 19th. As for Newtown, they will challenge Bunnell at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Bunnell comes in still looking for their first win of the season.
