The Byhalia Indians''s recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Thursday after their eighth straight loss. Their rough 35-12 defeat to North Pontotoc might stick with them for a while.
Byhalia's defeat came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performance. Perhaps the best among them was Ashton Franklin, who rushed for 127 yards and a touchdown on only eight carries. Another player making a difference was Lance Williams, who rushed for 122 yards on only nine carries.
North Pontotoc found their leader in underclassman Drew Winfun, who rushed for 173 yards and a touchdown, and also threw for 75 yards and two touchdowns. The team also got some help courtesy of Tyler Pickens, who picked up 75 receiving yards and two touchdowns.
Byhalia's loss was their fourth straight at home (dating back to last season), which dropped their overall record down to 1-8. Those losses could be blamed on the team's offensive performance across that stretch, as they only averaged 6.0 points per game. As for North Pontotoc, they now have a winning record of 5-4.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Byhalia will challenge South Pontotoc at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. As for North Pontotoc, they will head out on the road to face off against Senatobia at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. Senatobia knows how to get points on the board -- the squad has finished with flashy point totals in its past three matches -- so hopefully North Pontotoc likes a good challenge.
