Baseball Recap: Mathews Has No Trouble Against Northampton

Mathews won the last time they faced Northampton and things went their way on Wednesday too. The Blue Devils blew past the Yellowjackets 12-6. The result was nothing new for the Blue Devils, who have now won three contests by six runs or more so far this season.

Christian Blue made a big impact while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, striking out nine batters over 5.1 innings while giving up three earned (and two unearned) runs off seven hits. Blue was also big at the plate, going 2-for-4 with two stolen bases and three RBI.

In other batting news, Blake Hunley was incredible, going a perfect 3-for-3 with four stolen bases, two runs, and two RBI. That's the most RBI he has posted since back in May of 2024. Another player making a difference was Hunter Horsley, who went 3-for-5 with two stolen bases, two runs, and two RBI.

Mathews kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 12 hits. That's the most hits they've managed all season.

Mathews' victory ended a three-game drought at home and bumped them up to 4-5. As for Northampton, their loss was their third straight on the road, which dropped their record down to 1-6.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Mathews will welcome West Point at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday. As for Northampton, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Franklin at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday.
