It can be hard to translate regular season success to the playoffs, but the Dr. Phillips Panthers had no problem doing just that on Friday. They breezed by the Pioneers at home to the tune of 92-63. Dr. Phillips is really starting to get used to good results now that the team's won 15 straight.
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Dr. Phillips to victory, but perhaps none more so than Trinity Turner, who almost dropped a double-double on 20 points and nine rebounds. Turner hasn't dropped below three steals for ten straight games. Leah Bullard was another key contributor, dropping a double-double on 26 points and ten rebounds.
Several Pioneers players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Zora Jackson, who scored 16 points along with five rebounds and four steals. Jackson has been hot recently, having posted two or more steals the last ten times she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Zahariah Jones, who dropped a double-double on 15 points and 14 rebounds.
Dr. Phillips' win was their 11th straight at home, which pushed their record up to 22-4. They've been dominating during the matchups in that stretch too, as they've won by an average of 27.6 points. As for Oak Ridge, their defeat dropped their record down to 12-12.
Dr. Phillips will square off against Tohopekaliga at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Dr. Phillips knows how to get points on the board -- the team has finished with flashy point totals in its past six matches -- so hopefully Tohopekaliga likes a good challenge. As for Oak Ridge, they will look to defend their home court on Wednesday against Central at 7:00 p.m. Hopefully Central focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 16 last Wednesday.
