The Pueblo West Cyclones posted their biggest victory since November 30, 2023 on Saturday. They really took it to Air Academy for the full four quarters, racking up a 65-35 win on the road. Winning is a bit easier when you work as a team to rack up eight more assists than your opponent, as Pueblo West did.
Leading Pueblo West to victory were Malachi Stump and Andrew Trujillo. Stump scored 15 points along with five steals, while Trujillo scored 15 points along with seven rebounds and three blocks. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Trujillo has scored all season. Another player making a difference was Micah Campos, who scored eight points along with six assists and five steals.
Air Academy lost despite a true team effort on the offense, the best among them being Noah Hellem, who scored 18 points along with three steals. That was a full 51.4% of Air Academy's points, marking the third time in a row he's earned more than a third of the team's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Turner Grow, who scored six points along with three steals.
Pueblo West has been performing well recently as they've won six of their last eight games, which provided a nice bump to their 9-6 record this season. As for Air Academy, they have traveled a rocky road recently, as they've lost six of their last eight matches, which put a noticeable dent in their 5-11 record this season.
Pueblo West will look to defend their home court on Tuesday against Pueblo Centennial at 7:30 p.m. Hopefully Pueblo Centennial focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up five on Friday. As for Air Academy, they will head out on the road to challenge Palmer Ridge at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Hopefully Palmer Ridge focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 13 last Friday.
