Schenck dropped their record down to 7-4 on Tuesday, which also ended the team's five-game streak of wins. They lost 17-2 to the Penobscot Valley Howlers. The Wolverines were red-hot at the plate heading into the matchup (they scored no less than ten runs in the four contests prior), but the Howlers' pitchers proved too tough.
As for Penobscot Valley, they pushed their record up to 10-0 with the victory, which was their sixth straight at home dating back to last season. Considering they have won nine games by more than nine runs this season, Tuesday's blowout was nothing new.
For Penobscot Valley's part, Lauren Veino made a splash no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out six batters over three innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off four hits (and not a single walk). Veino has been consistent for a while: she hasn't given up more than one earned run in nine consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-2 with three runs and one stolen base.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Allie LeBlanc, who got on base in all four of her plate appearances with two stolen bases, three RBI, and two runs. That's the most stolen bases she has posted since back in May of 2024. Another player making a difference was Shay Ireland, who got on base in all three of her plate appearances with three runs, one stolen base, and one double.
