Each year since 2006, MaxPreps has recognized outstanding performers in high school football. America's source for high school sports continues the tradition to close out the 2021 season by naming the top player in each state. Selections are based on team success and individual excellence, in addition to local and state accolades.
Joshua Wood of
Graham-Kapowsin (Graham) is the 2021 MaxPreps Washington High School Football Player of the Year. The 6-foot-3, 185-pound senior quarterback led the Eagles to a 14-0 season, capped with a 44-7 4A state championship win over Lake Stevens.
In the championship game, Wood was 4-of-6 passing for 29 yards, but did his damage rushing for 171 yards on 11 carries and two touchdowns.
The Eastern Washington commit finished the season with 2,222 yards passing on 151 of 212 and 31 touchdowns. He added 535 yards rushing and 10 more scores.
Each state's MaxPreps Player of the Year will be considered for inclusion in the MaxPreps All-America Team, which will be released in early January.
