Kent Denver took care of business in their home opener (and then some) on Thursday. They were the clear victor by a 15-2 margin over the Englewood Pirates. The Sun Devils not only won on Thursday, but they posted their biggest win since April 11, 2024.
Joseph Covell made a big impact no matter where he played. He struck out eight batters over four innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off three hits. That's the fewest hits he has allowed since back in April of 2024. He was also big at the plate, scoring a run while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances. What's more, he posted two RBI, the most he's had since back in April of 2024.
In other batting news, Will Goldmanis was a standout: he scored four runs and stole Three bases. while going 3-for-3. The team also got some help courtesy of Andrew Perry, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with four RBI, two doubles, and one triple.
Kent Denver always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .647. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Englewood only posted an OBP of .333.
Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Kent Denver will host Montbello at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday. As for Englewood, they will look to take advantage of their home field for the first time this season as they take on DSST: Montview at 4:00 p.m. on March 13th.
