Winning is just a little bit easier when you work as a team to rack up seven more assists than your opponent, a fact the Roncalli Royals proved on Friday. They took down Heritage Christian 58-42. For Roncalli, this counts as revenge for the 50-43 defeat Heritage Christian walked away with the last time they faced one another back in February of 2023.
Roncalli was led to victory by Joe Taylor and Drew Kegerreis. Taylor almost dropped a double-double on 19 points and nine rebounds, while Kegerreis scored 14 points along with seven rebounds and two steals. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Taylor has scored all season. The team also got some help courtesy of Noah Schmaltz, who scored ten points.
When it comes to explaining why Heritage Christian lost, one person who can't be blamed is Luke Peters. Despite the final result, he dropped a double-double on 13 points and 11 rebounds. Peters has been hot recently, having posted two or more blocks the last four times he's played. Cole Louden was another key contributor, scoring seven points along with five rebounds and two steals.
Roncalli is on a roll lately: they've won four of their last five games, which provided a massive bump to their 11-8 record this season. As for Heritage Christian, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 11-7.
Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Roncalli will take on Indianapolis Scecina Memorial at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Hopefully Roncalli focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up eight on Friday. As for Heritage Christian, they won't have much time to rest: their next contest is against Fort Wayne Blackhawk Christian at 7:30 p.m. on February 10th. Fort Wayne Blackhawk Christian has been dominant on offense recently, as they've racked up an incredible 525 points over their last eight matches.
