Tooele is a perfect 7-0 against Cottonwood since March of 2022 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Wednesday. The Buffaloes will head out to take on the Colts at 3:30 p.m. Tooele has given up an average of 8.1 runs per game this season, but Wednesday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.
Tooele blew Hillcrest out of the water the last time the pair played, but on Tuesday Hillcrest got their revenge. The Buffaloes fell just short of the Huskies by a score of 15-13. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest defeat the Buffaloes have suffered since May 9, 2024.
Hunter Culley stepped up to lead a balanced group of hitters: she got on base in four of her five plate appearances with one triple, two RBI, and one run. Another player making a difference was Bella Pacheco, who scored three runs while going 3-for-3.
Meanwhile, Cottonwood was not able to break out of their rough patch on Tuesday as the team picked up their fourth straight loss. They were a single run away from ending the streak, but they lost a 3-2 heartbreaker at the hands of Jordan. That's two games in a row now that the Colts have lost by just one run.
Gretta Lewis spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered three runs (all of which were unearned) on four hits and racked up nine Ks. Those hits were her first of the season.
On the hitting side, Breeya Busey made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and scored a run and stole two bases while getting on base in three of her four plate appearances. She has been hot recently, having posted at least one stolen base the last three times she's played. Samantha Rodriguez was another key player, getting no hits from her two at bats.
Tooele has traveled a rocky road recently, having lost four of their last five matches. That's put a noticeable dent in their 6-11 record this season. Those defeats can't be blamed on the team's hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 7.6 runs over those games. As for Cottonwood, their loss dropped their record down to 3-7.
Everything went Tooele's way against Cottonwood in their previous matchup back in March, as Tooele made off with a 16-1 win. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Buffaloes since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
