Halifax and Newport are an even 5-5 against one another since April of 2019, but likely not for long. The Wildcats are taking a road trip to take on the Buffaloes at 4:30 p.m. on Monday. Halifax will be looking to extend their current five-game winning streak.
Last Friday, Halifax beat Juniata 6-3.
Will Steinhauer was a standout: he scored two runs and stole two bases while going 2-for-3. The dominant performance also gave him a new career-high in doubles (two). Josh Zahurak was another key player, going 2-for-3 with two stolen bases, one triple, and one run.
Meanwhile, Newport made easy work of East Juniata on Friday and carried off a 16-4 victory. The result was nothing new for the Buffaloes, who have now won four matches by ten runs or more so far this season.
Aden Banks made a big impact no matter where he played. On the mound, he tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. He has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up a single walk in four consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, scoring a run and stealing a base while going 1-for-4. That stolen base marked the first that he snagged this season.
In other batting news, Newport got a massive performance out of Jameson Cummins, who scored two runs and stole a base while going 2-for-4. Another player making a difference was Landon Cigic, who scored three runs and stole a base while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances.
Newport is on a roll lately: they've won four of their last five games. That's provided a nice bump to their 5-2 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.2 runs on average over those games. As for Halifax, their victory was their fifth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 5-1.
Everything went Halifax's way against Newport in their previous meeting back in May of 2024, as Halifax made off with a 14-1 win. Do the Wildcats have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Buffaloes turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
