The Kearny Komets's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Saturday after their third straight defeat. They had to suffer through a rough 62-30 loss at the hands of San Diego Jewish Academy. Kearny was in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 38-14.
Kearny lost despite a true team effort on the offense, the best among them being Braeden Hatch, who scored 11 points along with eight rebounds. Another player making a difference was Emanuel Escobedo, who scored three points along with five rebounds.
Kearny struggled to work together and finished the game with only four assists. They were crushed by their opponents in that department as San Diego Jewish Academy racked up 18 assists.
San Diego Jewish Academy found their leader in underclassman Ethan Abeles, who scored 16 points along with seven rebounds and seven steals. Abeles is on a roll when it comes to points, as he's now scored 16 or more in the last eight games he's played. David Feigenbaum was another key contributor, scoring ten points along with five steals.
Kearny dropped their record down to 5-18 with that defeat, which was their sixth straight on the road. As for San Diego Jewish Academy, they have been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four contests, which provided a massive bump to their 10-10 record this season.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Kearny will challenge Mira Mesa at 6:15 p.m. on Tuesday. Mira Mesa presents a significant challenge as they come into the match much higher ranked than Kearny in California (Mira Mesa is ranked 402nd, while Kearny is ranked 1205th). As for San Diego Jewish Academy, they will head out on the road to square off against Classical Academy at 5:00 p.m. on Monday. San Diego Jewish Academy is strutting with some offensive muscle, as they've averaged 50.4 points per game this season.
