The Veritas Prep Falcons will face off against the Phoenix Country Day Eagles at 3:45 p.m. on Monday. Veritas Prep's pitching crew has only allowed four runs per game this season, so Phoenix Country Day's hitters will have their work cut out for them.
It was a Battle of the Birds when Veritas Prep took on Horizon Honors on Thursday. The Falcons fell 6-3 to the Eagles. The Falcons haven't had much luck with the Eagles recently, as the team has come up short the last five times they've met.
Cade Huseth was huge no matter where he played even without the win. He looked comfortable on the mound, tossing 4.1 innings while giving up just one earned (and two unearned) runs off seven hits. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than two walks in eight consecutive appearances. He was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-3 with one stolen base and one RBI.

In other batting news, Tico Lentz was cooking despite his team's loss, scoring a run and stealing two bases while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances. He has become a key player for Veritas Prep: the team is 2-1 when he posts at least two stolen bases, but 3-5 otherwise. Another player making a difference was Bennett Luzader, who scored a run and stole two bases while going 1-for-2.
Meanwhile, Phoenix Country Day had already won two in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 3 runs) and they went ahead and made it three on Saturday. They came within a single run of losing the streak, but they secured a 3-2 W against the Spartans.
The team relied heavily on Jack Whalen, who went 1-for-3 with one home run and two RBI.
Veritas Prep now has a losing record of 5-6. As for Phoenix Country Day, their victory bumped their record up to 9-6.
The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Monday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Veritas Prep has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 7.6 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Phoenix Country Day struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 10.7 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.
Veritas Prep couldn't quite get it done against Phoenix Country Day in their previous meeting two weeks ago as they fell 3-0. Will the Falcons have more luck at home instead of on the road? Come back here after the game to get an analysis of the match and other baseball content.
