With a playoff game on the line, the Mater Lakes Academy Bears rose to the challenge on Friday. They narrowly escaped with a win as the squad sidled past the Stallions 2-1. Winning may never get old, but Mater Lakes Academy sure is getting used to it with their tenth in a row.
They were led to victory by the tag-team duo of
Gabriel Zapata and
Henry Mantilla, who scored both of Mater Lakes Academy's goals. The pair have combined for a total of 26 so far this season.
Mater Lakes Academy's victory was their sixth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 14-0-1. As for American Heritage, their defeat dropped their record down to 9-6-1.
Mater Lakes Academy will head out on the road to square off against Gulliver Prep at 3:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Gulliver Prep's defense has only allowed 0.3 goals per game this season, so Mater Lakes Academy's offense will have their work cut out for them. American Heritage does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
