After flying high against the Antonito Trojans last Saturday, the Creede Miners came back down to earth. Creede took a serious blow against Primero on Friday, falling 73-46. While losing is never fun, Creede can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Colorado basketball rankings (they are ranked 329th, while Primero is ranked 163rd).
Creede lost despite a true team effort on the offense, the best among them being Will Roden, who scored 23 points. Roden scored a full 50% of Creede's points, the fifth time in a row he's earned more than a third of the team's points. Another player making a difference was Jaxson Fazio, who scored 17 points along with seven rebounds.
Primero got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was Mathew Pachorek out in front who scored 23 points. That makes it three consecutive games in which Pachorek has scored at least 25% of Primero's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Xavier Garcia, who scored 18 points.
Creede's defeat was their fourth straight at home dating back to last season, which bumped their record down to 1-4. As for Primero, the win got them back to even at 2-2.
Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Creede will be home for the holidays to greet Dolores at 3:00 p.m. on Friday. Dolores is strutting with some offensive muscle, as they've averaged 50.5 points per game. Primero will be home for the holidays to greet Moffat at 9:30 a.m. on Saturday. Hopefully Moffat focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 24 on Saturday.
