Softball Recap: Whitney Comes Up Short

If Whitney was feeling good fresh off their 16-4 takedown of Glenn last Thursday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. The Wildcats fell just short of the Artesia Pioneers by a score of 16-14 on Tuesday. Even though they lost, the Wildcats' still made a splash at the plate and bumped their average scoring up to 6.5 runs per game (they're now ranked -1th in scoring overall).

Chiugo Anyama and Olachi Anyama stepped up to the plate in a big way. Chiugo went a perfect 5-for-5 with six RBI, two runs, and one stolen base, while Olachi scored five runs and stole a base while getting on base in all five of her plate appearances. Olachi continues to improve, besting her previous point total in each of the last three games she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Nikilynn Baptista, who scored two runs while getting on base in four of her five plate appearances.

Whitney has been struggling recently as they've lost three of their last four games. That's put a noticeable dent in their 5-5 record this season. Those losses can't be blamed on the team's hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 9.3 runs over those games. As for Artesia, they now have a winning record of 7-6.

Looking ahead, Whitney will square off against Oxford Academy at 3:15 p.m. on Friday. The Wildcats' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Patriots have averaged an impressive 9.6 runs per game this season. As for Artesia, they will face off against Pioneer at 3:15 p.m. on Friday.
