After two weeks on the road, J.P. Stevens is heading back home. On Friday they will take on Monroe Township at 7:00 PM. Both of these teams will be looking for a pick-me-up after considerable defeats in their previous games.
We expected J.P. Stevens to have trouble with the significantly higher-ranked South Brunswick last Friday, and they did. J.P. Stevens suffered a grim 13-41 defeat to South Brunswick. The loss shouldn't obscure the performances of senior Kasi Hazzard, who picked up 70 yards on the ground and caught passes for 75 yards, and junior Joey Young, who picked up 35 yards on the ground and accumulated 100 passing yards. If you haven't heard Hazzard's name lately, then you haven't been paying much attention: he has loomed large in J.P. Stevens' past four games.
Meanwhile, things haven't been easy for Monroe Township, and their game last Friday only extended their streak of losses to seven. They ended up on the wrong side of a painful 21-53 walloping at East Brunswick's hands. The state rankings had actually given Monroe Township a slight edge heading into the game, making this hurt that much more.
With the two teams each stumbling in off of a defeat, both will be hungry for the victory. We'll see which team satisfies their hunger and which team leaves with an empty stomach.
