The biggest upset of the week belonged to Moreau Catholic, who took down 555th ranked American, 29-26.
The Mariners moved up to 625 from 679 in the state rankings this week, the biggest jump in Mission Valley. Moreau Catholic was able to make move up by besting the Eagles 29-26.
Kennedy's dynamic duo of Justin Staley and Atu Ohuafi proved tough for Newark Memorial to stop, as they were the top passer and receiver in the league this week. Staley threw for 147 yards and two touchdowns and Ohuafi had 120 yards receiving. Joel Romero helped Kennedy's passing attack out by catching three balls for 16 yards.
Robert Pinkney was the most productive running back in the league this week. In seven carries, he ran for 138 yards as American lost to the Cougars. Teammate Drew Lyell added to the ground attack by rushing for 94 yards.
6-foot-0 quarterback Tamim Sarwary of Mission San Jose is the league leader in passing yards this season with 1650. He has also thrown 14 touchdowns. On the ground, Bret Casey's team's Lyell has rushed for 887 yards which leads the league. The leading receiver in the league this season is Ohuafi. The Kennedy star has 29 catches for 721 yards.
The top two teams in Mission Valley will face off this week when first place Newark Memorial takes on second place Washington. Newark Memorial defeated Kennedy last week, while Washington beat Irvington.
Two of the top units in the league will face off this week when the Eagles take on Rich Swift's team. American's offense has scored 247 points this season, good for No. 1 in the league, while the Cougars have allowed only 194 on the year.
