Big Seven recap October 8, 2013
Fans got a thrill when Andrae McGaughy and Mason McCall connected against Atchison County. The connection was good for 86 yards, the longest such play in Big Seven this season.
Perry-Lecompton's Brandon Eddy recorded the longest rushing play in the league this season in his game against Holton last week. Eddy ran for 78 yards on the play and finished with 130 on the day as his team fell to the Wildcats.
Riverside [Wathena/Elwood]'s dynamic duo of McGaughy and McCall proved tough for the Tigers to stop, as they were the top passer and receiver in the league this week. McGaughy threw for 191 yards and 2 touchdowns and McCall had 123 yards receiving. Quenton Munger helped Riverside [Wathena/Elwood]'s passing attack out by catching 2 balls for 67 yards.
Leading the league in both passing and receiving yards, Santa Fe Trail's Weston Gloss and Tyler Mundy have proven to be a lethal combination. 6-2 quarterback Gloss has thrown for 868 yards this season, while Mundy has 36 catches for 595 yards. Holton's Brenden Hampton leads the league in rushing yards with 573.
An important game coming up in Big Seven this week will be when Jefferson West takes on Brooks Barta's team. The Tigers are in second place, while the Wildcats are in third place.
Sabetha was the team that gained the most ground in the standings this week, jumping from 10th to fifth in the league. Earlier in the week, the Bluejays defeated the Chargers 27-8.
