The Redlands East Valley Wildcats are taking a road trip to challenge the Yucaipa Thunderbirds at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Redlands East Valley is coming into the matchup hot, having won their last seven games.
Redlands East Valley barely beat Cajon the last time the pair played, but that sure wasn't the case this time around. The Wildcats blew past the Cowboys 10-1 on Thursday.
Joseph Prosper looked comfortable as he pitched 1.2 innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. He has been consistent: he hasn't given up more than one walk in eight consecutive appearances.
At the plate, Redlands East Valley got a massive performance out of Alan Gibbons, who got on base in all five of his plate appearances with three runs and one triple. That's the most runs Gibbons has posted since back in March. The team also got some help courtesy of Griffin Cunningham, who got on base in all five of his plate appearances with one triple, two RBI, and one run.
Meanwhile, Yucaipa posted their closest win since March 29th on Thursday. They skirted past Beaumont 8-6. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Thunderbirds.
Zach Scribner and Blake McGilvary dominated on the mound. Scribner struck out eight batters over five innings while giving up three earned (and three unearned) runs off nine hits (and only one walk), while McGilvary pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit.
On the hitting side, Yucaipa let Evan Heaton and Connor White run wild. Heaton went 3-for-4 with two RBI, one run, and one double, while White went a perfect 3-for-3 with one triple, one run, and one RBI. That triple marked the first that White has hit this season. Another player making a difference was Damian Cordero, who went 1-for-4 with two runs, one double, and one RBI.
Redlands East Valley's victory was their third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 14-8. The road wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 9.3 runs over those games. As for Yucaipa, their record now sits at 14-7.
