The 6-foot-6, 310-pound Jones, who verbally committed to Penn State in April only to decommit in July, said he enjoyed the atmosphere in South Bend, Ind.
"I felt Notre Dame is a lot like Aquinas," Jones told the Democrat and Chronicle. "There is a good Christian community. It's a smaller school, smaller classes, more hands-on learning. That's where I need to be."
Jones, the nation's No. 13 overall recruit, joins a Fighting Irish recruiting class that features fellow defensive tackle
Sheldon Day.
Notre Dame appears to be set on the defensive line for years to come. In its 2011 recruiting haul, Brian Kelly landed
Aaron Lynch,
Stephon Tuitt and
Ishaq Williams, all impressive recruits at the position. Notre Dame, which had been ranked No. 18 in the MaxPreps
team recruiting rankings, is sure to rise with Jones now on board.
Monrovia (Calif.) standout
Ellis McCarthy remains the top defensive lineman yet to commit. McCarthy is the nation's No. 7 recruit.
