Christopher and Pioneer are an even 4-4 against one another since May of 2016, but likely not for long. The Cougars will be playing at home against the Mustangs at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Christopher has given up an average of 8 runs per game this season, but Wednesday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.
Christopher lost 14-5 to Gilroy on Saturday. The Cougars haven't had much luck with the Mustangs recently, as the team has come up short the last five times they've met.
Melissa Lugo made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and got on base in three of her four plate appearances with three stolen bases and two runs. Olivia Wilson was another key player, going 2-for-3 with one run, one double, and one RBI.
Fans were treated to a battle of the Mustangs on Thursday. Pioneer came out on top against King City by a score of 6-1.
Gina Scripoch spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered a run (which was unearned) on three hits and racked up eight Ks. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than one earned run in four consecutive appearances.
On the hitting side, Cara Goodrich was incredible, going 3-for-4 with three stolen bases, two runs, and two RBI. That's the most RBI she has posted since back in March of 2024. Another player making a difference was Kassandra Andalon, who went 2-for-3 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one double.
Pioneer kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. That's a new trend for them: they were averaging 5.4 hits per game earlier this season, but in their last 15 matchups they've averaged 10.8.
Pioneer's victory bumped their record up to 4-10. As for Christopher, their defeat dropped their record down to 5-8.
Christopher took their win against Pioneer in their previous matchup two weeks ago by a conclusive 12-5 score. Will the Cougars repeat their success, or do the Mustangs have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
