After only one run in their last match, Bridgeport made sure to put some runs up on the board against Malvern on Wednesday. The Bulldogs were the clear victors by a 13-3 margin over the Hornets. Considering the Bulldogs have won six contests by more than nine runs this season, Wednesday's blowout was nothing new.
Vanessa Mullen made a splash while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out six batters over six innings while giving up just one earned (and two unearned) runs off four hits (and not a single walk). She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than one walk in seven consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-4 with two runs, two RBI, and one double.
In other batting news, Bridgeport got a massive performance out of Rowyn Herman, who went 3-for-4 with three runs, one stolen base, and one double. Those three hits gave Herman a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Hanna Brewer, who went 1-for-3 with three stolen bases and three runs.
Bridgeport was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .387. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Malvern only posted a batting average of .227.
Bridgeport's victory bumped their record up to 13-7. As for Malvern, they are on a seven-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 4-18.
