Basketball Recap: Dreyfoos School of the Arts Comes Up Short

Dreyfoos School of the Arts was not able to break out of their rough patch on Wednesday as the team picked up their fourth straight loss. They were dealt a 73-43 defeat at the hands of the Seminole Ridge Hawks. The Jaguars were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Hawks apparently hadn't forgotten their loss the last time these teams played back in January of 2024.

Dreyfoos School of the Arts lost despite a true team effort on offense, the best among them being Tyson Jimerson, who almost dropped a double-double on nine points and 13 boards. Jimerson is on a roll when it comes to rebounds, as he's now pulled down eight or more in the last 11 games he's played. James Griffin was another key player, putting up 11 points.

Even though they lost, Dreyfoos School of the Arts smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 17 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least nine offensive boards in 11 consecutive matches.

Alejandro Alava was a one-man wrecking crew for Seminole Ridge as he posted 21 points and three steals. The dominant performance gave Alava a new career-high in steals. The team also got some help courtesy of Jonah Pio, who went 5 for 9 on his way to 12 points and five boards.

Dreyfoos School of the Arts' defeat dropped their record down to 3-11. As for Seminole Ridge, the win snapped their losing streak at six games and leaves them with a 3-16 record.

Dreyfoos School of the Arts has already played their next contest (against Pahokee), but no score has been uploaded at the time of writing. Seminole Ridge will welcome New Smyrna Beach at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. New Smyrna Beach will roll in looking for their fourth straight victory, something Seminole Ridge surely won't give up without a fight.
