Delmarva Christian hasn't had much luck against Cape Henlopen recently, but that could start to change on Wednesday. The Royals will be playing in front of their home fans against the Vikings at 4:15 p.m. The two teams each escaped (but just barely!) with wins against their previous opponents.
While Delmarva Christian's win against Ursuline Academy wasn't quite the blowout it was the last time the pair played, they still came out on top. The Royals sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 7-6 victory over the Raiders on Monday. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win the Royals have posted since May 7, 2024.

Taylor Lowe made a big impact no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out seven batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't tossed less than seven strikeouts in three consecutive appearances. She was also stellar in the batter's box, going 2-for-4 with three runs, one triple, and one stolen base. That triple marked the first that she has hit this season.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Eve Bohinski, who went 3-for-4 with four stolen bases, one run, and one RBI. That run was her first of the season. Marykate Dougherty was another key player, going 2-for-4 with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI.
Meanwhile, Cape Henlopen strolled into their game on Tuesday with a perfect record and they left with the same. They came within a single run of losing the streak, but they secured a 4-3 W against Sussex Central. The four-run effort marked the Vikings' lowest-scoring matchup of the season, but in the end it didn't matter.
Abby Marsh spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered three earned runs on four hits.
On the hitting side, Alivia Heers was incredible, going 2-for-4 with one home run and three RBI. The team also got some help courtesy of Ava Calciano, who got on base in three of her four plate appearances with one stolen base and one run.
Cape Henlopen pushed their record up to 12-0 with the victory, which was their eighth straight at home dating back to last season. As for Delmarva Christian, their win bumped their record up to 3-4.
The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Wednesday as neither team is afraid to steal. Delmarva Christian has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 3.6 stolen bases per game. However, it's not like Cape Henlopen struggles in that department as they've been averaging 3.4 stolen bases. The only question left is which team can snag more.
Delmarva Christian couldn't quite finish off Cape Henlopen in their previous matchup back in May of 2024 and fell 5-3. Will the Royals have more luck at home instead of on the road? Come back here after the game to get an analysis of the match and other softball content.
