The McDonough Rams struggled with assists on Friday (the Huntingtown Hurricanes had nine more) and sadly the final score reflected it. McDonough took a hard 47-32 fall against Huntingtown. McDonough has now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.
Despite the loss, McDonough still got an impressive performance from Cailyn Samuel, who scored 18 points along with four steals. Mikayla King was another key contributor, scoring six points along with two steals.
Huntingtown found their leader in underclassman Eva Powell, who dropped a double-double on 16 points and 13 rebounds. Powell has been hot recently, having posted two or more blocks the last five times she's played. Another player making a difference was Sofia Hoetzlein-sirman, who scored eight points along with seven assists and four steals.
McDonough's loss dropped their record down to 7-5. As for Huntingtown, the victory was the fifth in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 11-5.
McDonough will look to defend their home court on Wednesday against La Plata at 5:30 p.m. La Plata is no doubt hoping to put an end to an eight-game streak of away losses. As for Huntingtown, they will head out on the road to take on Great Mills at 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday. The matchup should be an exciting one, as these teams are ranked near one another in Maryland (Great Mills is ranked 123rd, while Huntingtown is ranked 116th).
