Plano West is on a three-game streak of home wins, while McKinney Boyd is on a four-game streak of away wins: one of those streaks is about to end. The Plano West Wolves will welcome the McKinney Boyd Broncos at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday. Both come into the matchup bolstered by wins in their previous matches.
On Thursday, Plano West earned a 9-4 victory over Prosper. The win continues a trend for the Wolves in their matchups with the Eagles: they've now won five in a row.
Marlee Flanigan spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered three earned (and one unearned) runs on eight hits. Those hits marked the first that she allowed this season.
At the plate, Abby Cuellar was a standout: she scored two runs and stole a base while going 3-for-3. That's the most hits she has posted since back in February. Andrea Carrillo was another key player, going 2-for-3 with one home run and four RBI.
Meanwhile, while McKinney Boyd put up plenty of runs on Thursday, the same can't be said for Princeton. McKinney Boyd put the hurt on Princeton with a sharp 11-0 victory. The Broncos might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won 12 games by six runs or more this season.
Not much got past Sophia Vlahos, who gave up just three hits and racked up 12 Ks to keep Princeton off the board. What's more, Vlahos gave up only zero walks, the fewest she's had since back in February.
On the hitting side, Reagan Davis and Olivia Locke did most of the damage at the plate: Davis scored a run while going 2-for-4, while Locke scored a run and stole a base while going 1-for-2. The team also got some help courtesy of Leah Teague, who scored three runs while going 2-for-4.
McKinney Boyd hit smart and finished the game with only one strikeout. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now struck out at most five strikeouts in 11 consecutive contests.
McKinney Boyd is on a roll lately: they've won ten of their last 11 matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 13-8 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.9 runs on average over those games. Plano West's win bumped their record up to 11-6.
Saturday's game will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Plano West hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .326. However, it's not like McKinney Boyd struggles in that department as they've averaged .355. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Plano West took their victory against McKinney Boyd in their previous meeting back in February by a conclusive 13-7. Will Plano West repeat their success, or does McKinney Boyd have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
