Upper Merion Area will head out on the road to challenge Perkiomen Valley at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Upper Merion Area is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 6.8 runs per game this season.
Upper Merion Area proved they can win big on Wednesday (they won by 15) and on Monday they proved they can win the close ones too. They narrowly escaped with a win as the squad sidled past Pottsgrove 6-5. The Vikings haven't had any issues with the Falcons recently, as the game was their third consecutive victory against them.
Upper Merion Area got a great performance from Tristan Fanning as he struck out eight batters over 5.1 innings while giving up just two earned (and two unearned) runs off three hits. Fanning has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts any time he's pitched this season.
At the plate, the team relied heavily on John Tomsho, who scored three runs and stole a base while going 2-for-3. He is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as he's now snagged at least one in each of the last three games he's played. Dylan Fowler was another key player, going a perfect 1-for-1 with three RBI and one double.
Meanwhile, there's no place like home for Perkiomen Valley, who bounced back after a loss on the road on Wednesday. They came out on top against Boyertown by a score of 7-3 on Thursday.
Andrew Keenan was incredible, going a perfect 3-for-3 with one home run, three RBI, and one double. That double marked the first that he hit this season. The team also got some help courtesy of Michael Strechay, who scored two runs and stole a base while going 2-for-4.
Perkiomen Valley kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 12 hits. That's the most hits they've managed all season.
Perkiomen Valley has been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 5-3 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 6.6 runs over those games. As for Upper Merion Area, their record now sits at 4-2.
The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Wednesday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Upper Merion Area has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 9.7 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Perkiomen Valley struggles in that department as they've been averaging 8.5 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.
Upper Merion Area suffered a grim 16-5 defeat to Perkiomen Valley in their previous meeting back in May of 2024. Can Upper Merion Area avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
