The result shouldn't come as a shock considering that's the fewest points Mercer Christian Academy has scored all season.
When it comes to explaining why Mercer Christian Academy lost, one person who can't be blamed is Kayley Trump. Despite the final result, she dropped a double-double on 20 points and ten rebounds. Trump is absolutely dominating the steal category: she's posted at least two every time she's taken the court this season. Another player making a difference was Ella Botts, who scored ten points along with five steals.
Mercer Christian Academy's defeat dropped their record down to 9-4. As for Greenbrier East, their victory was their fourth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 10-3.
Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Mercer Christian Academy won't have much time to rest: their next game is against Mountain Mission at 4:30 p.m. on January 23rd. Mountain Mission will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in their respective state's rankings (they are ranked 222nd in Virginia, while Mercer Christian Academy is ranked 42nd in West Virginia). As for Greenbrier East, they will be playing at home against Hurricane at 7:30 p.m. on Friday.
