The Fossil Ridge SaberCats suffered their closest defeat yet this season on Friday. They fell just short of Monarch by a score of 42-39. Fossil Ridge has now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.
Despite the loss, Fossil Ridge had strong showings from Lily Wale, who scored 13 points along with two steals, and Carmen Arkin, who scored nine points along with six rebounds and three steals. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Wale has scored all season. Another player making a difference was Lauren Smith, who scored seven points along with nine rebounds.
Even though they lost, Fossil Ridge smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 19 offensive rebounds. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Monarch only pulled down six offensive rebounds.
Monarch found their leader in underclassman Sienna Williams, who dropped a double-double on 12 points and ten rebounds. Williams has been hot recently, having posted two or more blocks the last five times she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Reese Trobaugh, who scored 13 points.
Fossil Ridge now has a losing record at 6-7. As for Monarch, the victory was the third in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 5-6.
Fossil Ridge will look to defend their home court on Saturday against Loveland at 12:30 p.m. Loveland has been getting the ball to fall more lately as they've increased their point totals each of their last four games. As for Monarch, they will head out on the road to face off against Mountain Range at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday. Hopefully Mountain Range focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 15 on Thursday.
