Mountain View hasn't had much luck against Sunnyside recently, but that could start to change on Wednesday. The Mountain View Mountain Lions will be taking part in a tournament against the Sunnyside Blue Devils at 10:30 a.m.
Mountain View is headed into Wednesday's matchup looking for a big change in momentum after dropping their third straight game on Tuesday. They were a single run away from ending the streak, but they lost a 2-1 heartbreaker at the hands of Yuma. The game marked the Mountain Lions' lowest-scoring contest so far this season.
Mountain View saw two different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Benjamin Cleveland, who scored a run while going 1-for-3.
Meanwhile, Sunnyside hadn't done well against Canyon del Oro recently (they were 2-7 in their previous nine matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Tuesday. Sunnyside came out on top against Canyon del Oro by a score of 5-1. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Blue Devils.
SABINO GONZALEZ made a splash while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, pitching five innings while giving up just one earned run off six hits. GONZALEZ was also solid in the batter's box, scoring a run while getting on base in all three of his plate appearances.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on MICHEL MUNIZ, who went 3-for-4 with one stolen base and two RBI.
Sunnyside always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .600. The last time their OBP was this high was back in April of 2024.
Mountain View's defeat dropped their record down to 2-5. As for Sunnyside, their win bumped their record up to 6-2.
The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Wednesday as neither team is afraid to steal. Mountain View has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 3.1 stolen bases per game. However, it's not like Sunnyside struggles in that department as they've been averaging 3.9 stolen bases. The only question left is which team can snag more.
Mountain View suffered a grim 9-0 defeat to Sunnyside in their previous matchup back in March of 2024. Can Mountain View avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
