Jim Thorpe had to kick off their season on the road on Saturday, but they showed no ill effects. They took down the Palmerton Blue Bombers 28-14. The score was all tied up 14-14 at the break, but the Olympians were the (much) better team in the second half.
Cole Lazorick had an outrageously good game as he threw for 231 yards and two touchdowns while completing 72.2% of his passes, and also rushed for 65 yards and one TD. He also put in work on the defensive side of the ball, making seven total tackles (2.0 for loss) and defending two passes in addition to snagging an interception. Jim Thorpe's leading receiver Josh Louk was Lazorick's top target yet again, picking up 59 receiving yards, while also rushing for 37 yards and one score.
Although Palmerton took the loss, they still got scores from Caleb Sagastume and Wyatt Gable.
Jim Thorpe and Palmerton will both get their first taste of in-conference action in their upcoming games. The Olympians are set to square off against their familiar foe Pottsville at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Meanwhile, Palmerton will take on rival Pen Argyl at 1:30 p.m. on Saturday.
