Meek had lost four straight at home, but on Saturday they dropped down to 1-10 to make it five. They lost 15-5 to the Vinemont Eagles. The Tigers were not able to make up for their loss to the Eagles from their previous meeting back in March of 2022.
Evan McCay put in work while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only one hit while striking out seven over four innings pitched. That's the fewest hits he has allowed since back in March of 2025. He was also big at the plate, going 2-for-3 with two runs.
McCay wasn't the only one making solid contact as six players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Ethan Miles, who went 3-for-4 with one run. Wesley Mitchell also deserves some recognition as he brought in his first RBI of the season.
As for Vinemont, the win made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 4-5. The victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 10.5 runs over those games.
Like Meek, Vinemont also got a great game from a two-way player: Tucker Mauter. He looked comfortable on the mound, striking out 12 batters over five innings while giving up just one earned (and four unearned) runs off eight hits (and not a single walk). Mauter was also stellar in the batter's box, getting on base in five of his six plate appearances with three stolen bases, three runs, and one RBI. He has been hot recently, having posted two or more stolen bases the last four times he's played.
In other batting news, Travis Speer and Joshua Rhodes did most of the damage at the plate: Speer got on base in three of his five plate appearances with one home run, two stolen bases, and two runs, while Rhodes went 5-for-6 with three runs, three doubles, and four RBI. Those three doubles gave Rhodes a new career-high. Banks Borwick was another key player, getting on base in four of his six plate appearances with two runs and one RBI.
Coming up, Meek will square off against Carbon Hill at 5:00 p.m. on Friday. As for Vinemont, they will challenge East Lawrence at 3:00 p.m. on Saturday.
