The East Panthers suffered their biggest loss since December 8, 2023 on Wednesday. They took a serious blow against Health Sciences Charter, falling 74-40. The defeat unfortunately continues a disappointing trend for East in their matchups with Health Sciences Charter: they've now lost five in a row.
East lost despite a true team effort on the offense, the best among them being Jussean Pearsall, who scored 14 points along with five rebounds and two steals. That was a full 35% of East's points, marking the third time in a row he's earned more than a third of the team's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Mysean Morrison, who scored ten points along with seven rebounds and two blocks.
East struggled to work together and finished the game with only four assists. That's the fewest assists they've managed all season.
Health Sciences Charter got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Montrice Webster out in front who dropped a double-double on 20 points and ten rebounds. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Webster has scored all season. Amir Moye was another key contributor, scoring ten points along with seven assists and four steals.
East's loss was their fourth straight at home, which bumped their record down to 2-9. That rough patch can't be blamed on the team's offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 56.3 points per game. As for Health Sciences Charter, the victory makes it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 6-2.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. East won't have much time to rest: their next match is against Emerson Vo-Tech at 6:00 p.m. on January 11th. As for Health Sciences Charter, they will head out on the road to take on International Prep at Grover at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. International Prep at Grover comes in still looking for their first win of the season.
