Guilford has enjoyed a three-game homestand but will soon have to dust off their road jerseys. They will take on The Bassick Lions at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Bassick took a loss in their last game and will be looking to turn the tables on Guilford, who comes in off a win.
You can't lose the match if you win every quarter, and that was precisely Guilford's strategy against Harding on Friday. Given that consistent dominance, it should come as no surprise that Guilford blew Harding out of the water with a 56-6 final score. With Guilford ahead 42-6 at the half, the contest was all but over already.
Tyler Hilgert was on fire: he threw for 275 yards and five touchdowns while completing 75% of his passes, and also punched in a touchdown on the ground. Jake Jahnige also deserves a shout-out for his two touchdowns.
Meanwhile, this season hasn't been kind to Bassick, who are still winless after their fifth matchup. They were dealt a 51-12 loss at the hands of Bullard-Havens RVT/Kolbe-Cathedral on Thursday. Bassick was in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 38-6.
Guilford has been no stranger to the win column this season, as they've started out with wins in four of their first five contests, giving them a 4-1 record. As for Bassick, their defeat was their eighth straight at home (dating back to last season), which dropped their overall record down to 0-5.
Everything came up roses for Guilford against Bassick in their previous meeting back in October of 2022 as the team secured a 60-0 win. The rematch might be a little tougher for Guilford since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
