The Y Yuma's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Thursday after their sixth straight loss. They took a 40-34 hit to the loss column at the hands of Sedgwick County. That's two games in a row now that Y has lost by exactly six points.
Despite the loss, Y saw an underclassman step up: Taryn Sheffield scored four points along with two steals. Sheffield hasn't dropped below two steals for three straight games.
Sedgwick County's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Abigail Dille led the charge by scoring 16 points along with six rebounds and two steals. That makes it five consecutive games in which Dille has scored at least a third of Sedgwick County's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Ryen Carlson, who scored eight points along with eight rebounds and four steals.
Y dropped their record down to 9-7 with that defeat, which was their third straight at home. As for Sedgwick County, they are on a roll lately: they've won nine of their last ten games, which provided a nice bump to their 14-2 record this season.
Y and Merino will face off at 12:00 p.m. on February 9th without much rest after finishing up games yesterday. Merino will roll in looking for their 16th straight victory, something Y surely won't give up without a fight. As for Sedgwick County, they won't have much time to rest: their next game is against Wray at 4:00 p.m. on February 9th. Hopefully Wray focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 17 last Saturday.
