Covington is 9-1 against Riverside since April of 2021 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Tuesday. The Buccs will venture away from home to face off against the Pirates at 5:30 p.m. Riverside took a loss in their last contest and will be looking to turn the tables on Covington, who comes in off a win.
Covington barely beat Troy the last time the pair played, but that sure wasn't the case this time around. The Buccs put the hurt on the Trojans with a sharp 14-4 victory on Saturday. The Buccs haven't had any issues with the Trojans recently, as the game was their seventh consecutive win against them.
Cassidy Iddings spent all six innings played on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered four earned runs on five hits.
On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Elizabeth Coblentz, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with one home run, three runs, and three RBI. The team also got some help courtesy of Emalyn Johnson, who went 1-for-3 with one home run, two runs, and two RBI.
Covington always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .645. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Troy only posted an OBP of .280.
Riverside couldn't beat Milton-Union on Monday even though they stacked four runs on them in the sixth inning. The Pirates fell 10-5 to the Bulldogs. The Pirates haven't had much luck with the Bulldogs recently, as the team has come up short the last three times they've met.
Miah Carman made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and went 2-for-3 with one run, one double, and one RBI.
Covington's victory was their fifth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 16-8. Those home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 4.0 runs on average over those games. As for Riverside, their loss dropped their record down to 12-10.
Tuesday's matchup will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Covington hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .394. However, it's not like Riverside struggles in that department as they've averaged .319. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
