University City is 2-8 against Clairemont since May of 2015 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Tuesday. The Centurions will venture away from home to take on the Chieftains at 4:00 p.m. Both come into the match bolstered by wins in their previous matches.
On Monday, University City was able to grind out a solid win over Foothills Christian, taking the game 6-1.
Riley Conklin spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned run on seven hits. She has been consistent: she hasn't given up more than two walks in eight consecutive appearances.
At the plate, the team relied heavily on Ingrid Peters, who went 2-for-3 with two RBI, one run, and one double. That's the most RBI she has posted since back in March. Another player making a difference was Alyssa Castillo, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with one run and one double.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Clairemont). They blew past Madison 24-3 on Thursday. The Chieftains might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won eight contests by six runs or more this season.
Lucy Brickner was a standout: she went a perfect 5-for-5 with one home run, three runs, and three RBI. That home run was her first of the season. Camryn Walton was another key player, going 4-for-5 with three runs, four RBI, and one double.
Clairemont always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .804. They are 5-1 when they post an OBP of .513 or better.
