New Mexico Military Institute took a loss when they played away from home on Tuesday, but their home fans gave them all the motivation they needed on Monday. They came out on top against Gateway Christian by a score of 4-1.
Rodolfo Anaya looked comfortable as he pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit.
At the plate, New Mexico Military Institute's win was truly a team effort as two different players contributed at least one hit. One of them was Richard West, who scored a run and stole a base while going 1-for-3. Tegin Maloney was another, scoring a run and stealing a base while getting on base in two of his three plate appearances.
Meanwhile, Ruidoso made easy work of Dexter on Saturday and carried off a 15-3 victory. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Warriors.
Carson Stratton made a splash while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single hit and allowing only two earned runs while striking out 11 over four innings pitched. Those 11 strikeouts gave him a new career-high. He was also big at the plate, scoring two runs and stealing two bases while going 1-for-2. He has become a key player for Ruidoso: the team is undefeated when he posts at least two stolen bases, but 2-10-1 otherwise.
In other batting news, Ruidoso got a massive performance out of Joel Ortega, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with two stolen bases, two runs, and one triple. The Warriors are undefeated when Ortega posts two or more stolen bases, but 2-10-1 otherwise. Another player making a difference was Justin Mendez, who scored a run and stole two bases while going 3-for-3.
Ruidoso was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .565. They are undefeated (6-0) when they post a batting average of .375 or better.
New Mexico Military Institute pushed their record up to 10-6 with the win, which was their fourth straight at home. The home victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 13.3 runs over those games. As for Ruidoso, their win bumped their record up to 7-10-1.
New Mexico Military Institute took their victory against Ruidoso when the teams last played back in May of 2024 by a conclusive 11-1 score. Will the Colts repeat their success, or do the Warriors have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
