The Frankton Eagles will square off against the Alexandria-Monroe Tigers at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (Frankton 3.3, Alexandria-Monroe 1.8) so any runs scored will be well earned.
Alexandria-Monroe will face off against a team with plenty of momentum: Frankton extended their winning streak to four on Wednesday. The Eagles walked away with a 6-2 victory over Eastern Hancock. Six seems to be a good number for the Eagles as the squad scooped up a win with the same number of runs in their previous game.
Morgan Sparks spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered two runs (both of which were unearned) on eight hits.
On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Aly Smith, who got on base in three of her four plate appearances with one stolen base, two RBI, and one run. Another player making a difference was Cassidy Ward, who went 2-for-3 with two runs and one stolen base.
Meanwhile, Alexandria-Monroe didn't have quite enough to beat Mississinewa on Tuesday and fell 6-5. The loss was the Tigers' first of the season.
Kinley Webb was cooking despite her team's loss, going 1-for-3 with one home run and two runs. The team also got some help courtesy of Kinsley Johnson, who went 1-for-3 with three RBI and one double.
Having lost for the first time this season, Alexandria-Monroe fell to 11-1. As for Frankton, their victory bumped their record up to 10-4.
The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Thursday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Frankton has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 7.2 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Alexandria-Monroe struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 8.7 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.
Frankton came up short against Alexandria-Monroe in their previous meeting back in April, falling 6-2. Can the Eagles avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
