Bend has gone 8-2 against Caldera recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Wednesday. The Lava Bears will head out on the road to take on Caldera at 4:30 p.m. Bend is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 7.6 runs per game this season.
Ridgeview hit Bend with a four-run third inning on Tuesday, which goes a long way in explaining the final result. The Lava Bears fell 6-3 to the Ravens. The defeat continues a trend for the Lava Bears in their meetings with the Ravens: they've now lost six in a row.
Bend saw six different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Mackenzie Shaughnessy, who went 3-for-4 with one RBI. Macy Hickey also deserves some recognition as she snagged her first stolen base of the season.
Meanwhile, Caldera put another one in the bag on Friday to keep their perfect season alive. Everything went their way against Mountain View as they made off with an 18-8 win. Caldera might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won seven games by seven runs or more this season.
Brooke Chapin was a major factor no matter where she played. On the mound, she struck out eight batters over five innings while giving up three earned (and five unearned) runs off eight hits. Chapin was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-4 with two RBI and one double.
In other batting news, Makenzie Guerin was incredible, going 3-for-4 with two triples, three runs, and two RBI. Those three hits gave her a new career-high. Elle Morton was another key player, going 3-for-4 with three RBI, two runs, and one double.
Caldera kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 16 hits. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their hit total in three consecutive contests.
Bend's loss dropped their record down to 4-9. As for Caldera, their record is now 14-0.
Both the two teams just can't seem to miss. Bend has been making plenty of contact this season, having averaged 9.6 hits per game. However, it's not like Caldera struggles in that department as they've been averaging only 5.2 hits. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Bend might still be hurting after the 8-1 defeat they got from Caldera when the teams last played two weeks ago. Can the Lava Bears avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
