The Carroll Tigers will head out on the road to challenge the Corpus Christi Moody Trojans at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Expect the scorekeeper to be kept busy: if their previous games are any indication, these teams will really light up the scoreboard.
Carroll took a loss when they played away from home last Friday, but their home fans gave them all the motivation they needed on Friday. They blew past Ray 42-20. Considering the Tigers' offense had been struggling lately, the high-scoring outing was a much-needed turnaround.
On the defensive side of the ball, a lot of the credit has to go to Carroll's defense and their 11 sacks. The team can thank two different players for their defensive prowess: Aiden Ben-David and Eloy Rodriguez, who each picked up two sacks apiece. Another thorn in Ray's side was Ben-David, who picked up two sacks and made eight total tackles.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Corpus Christi Moody). They claimed a resounding 55-26 win over King. The victory was some much needed relief for the Trojans as it spelled an end to their three-game losing streak.
Carroll better keep an eye on Kayden Dufour. He was instrumental in Corpus Christi Moody's win, rushing for 178 yards and two touchdowns while picking up 9.9 yards per carry. That's the most rushing touchdowns Dufour has posted since back in September.
Corpus Christi Moody was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 412 rushing yards. They are 4-2 when they've run for more than 200 yards.
Corpus Christi Moody didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off three passes before the game was over. Romeo Castillo was the real danger to the passing game, picking up two interceptions all by himself. Corpus Christi Moody got some further help from Robert Garcia: he made 16 total tackles (3.0 for loss).
Carroll now has a winning record of 5-4. As for Corpus Christi Moody, their win was their first in the district, bumping their district record up to 1-3 and their overall record up to 4-5.
Carroll strolled past Corpus Christi Moody when the teams last played back in November of 2024 by a score of 35-21. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Tigers since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
