Ashland is 0-10 against Westwood since May of 2019 but things could change on Thursday. The Clockers are taking a road trip to square off against the Wolverines at 4:15 p.m. Ashland is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 6.9 runs per game this season.
Ashland took a loss when they played away from home on Monday, but their home fans gave them all the motivation they needed on Wednesday. They walked away with a 6-2 win over Millis. The victory was a breath of fresh air for the Clockers as it put an end to their four-game losing streak.
Neko Ustaris made a splash no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out seven batters over seven innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off six hits (and only one walk). Ustaris was also big at the plate, going a perfect 2-for-2 with two runs, one triple, and one stolen base. She is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as she's now snagged at least one in each of the last four games she's played.
In other batting news, Ruby Khazadian was excellent, going 1-for-3 with one triple, two RBI, and one run.
Meanwhile, Westwood hadn't done well against Medfield recently (they were 2-7 in their previous nine matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Wednesday. The Wolverines' pitcher stepped up to hand the Warriors a 6-0 shutout. Considering the Wolverines have won five matches by more than five runs this season, Wednesday's blowout was nothing new.
Medfield's batters probably weren't too happy with Bridget Mulkeen, who pitched a no hitter and racked up 13 Ks (she gave up two walks).
On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Mia Poles, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with two stolen bases, one run, and one RBI. Those three hits gave her a new career-high. Sasha Marino was another key player, going 2-for-4 with one run, one double, and one RBI.
Westwood is on a roll lately: they've won four of their last five games. That's provided a nice bump to their 7-3 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.6 runs on average over those games. As for Ashland, their record is now 4-9.
Ashland suffered a grim 11-2 defeat to Westwood when the teams last played back in April. Can the Clockers avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
