Columbia River hasn't had much luck against Ridgefield recently, but that could start to change on Wednesday. The Rapids will face off against the Spudders at 4:30 p.m. Both come into the game bolstered by wins in their previous matches.
Columbia River's pitching crew heads into the contest hoping to repeat the dominance they displayed back in March. They walked away with a 5-0 win over La Center.
The team relied heavily on Emily Hull, who scored a run and stole three bases. Those three stolen bases gave her a new career-high.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Ridgefield). They put the hurt on Washougal with a sharp 25-0 victory on Tuesday. The team's explosion at the plate also rewarded the Spudders with their most commanding win of the season.
Gracie Olmos made a splash no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run and allowing only two hits over five innings pitched. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than one walk in three consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 1-for-3 with three runs, three RBI, and one triple. That triple marked the first that she hit this season.
In other batting news, Tava Whitlow was incredible, going 2-for-4 with five RBI, three runs, and one double. Isabelle Walker was another key player, getting on base in two of her five plate appearances with three runs and four RBI.
Ridgefield always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .619. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.
Ridgefield pushed their record up to 6-1 with the win, which was their 12th straight at home dating back to last season. The home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.8 runs on average over those games. As for Columbia River, the win got them back to even at 1-1.
Columbia River couldn't quite get it done against Ridgefield when the teams last played back in May of 2024 as they fell 10-6. Can the Rapids avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
